Drug detox
Drug detox represents the first stage in the drug abuse treatment process. The addictive substance is detected in the body, with the help of a drug test detox. These tests are taken in order to determine if somebody has illegal or controlled substances in his/her system. During the drug detox process the body enters the withdrawal phase, which is a reaction to the removal of the addictive substances. The specialists have defined withdrawal as being the interruption of the use of a drug, and the psychological readjustment that results from it. The symptoms of the withdrawal may significantly differ depending on each body or drug being used. It is more and more common to see people in drug detox who use more than one type of drugs. Detox is the first stage in the treatment process and it is quite important because it considerably diminishes the symptoms of drug withdrawal. It is very important to note that until the drug detox process is complete the body is not ready for treatment. The main purpose of the drug test detox is to detect the toxins in the body, which were accumulated by drug use. Detoxification can be applied to any individual who is using drugs.
The withdrawal reaction is usually manifesting through sweating, shaking, headache, nausea, vomiting, cramps, insomnia, agitation, anxiety and many other behavioral alternations. It is notable that some drugs need a certain period of medical drug detox and some other don't. For example, opiates (heroin and methadose) do require a period of medical drug detox, while others, such as marijuana, crystal meth and cocaine do not require such a previous process. Another important feature about drug addiction is that it also creates a significant psychological dependence. After the drug test detox the individual needs a period of monitoring in what the vital signs and medications are concerned. Usually, the medically monitored period of supervision lasts for approximately one week. There are more types of drug tests for detox, such as urine analysis, immunoassay test, chromatography, hair follicle, sweat patch, saliva test and also blood test. The most used drug test for detox is the urine test because the urine contains the most amounts of metabolites of a drug take. Another test, which is very much used especially as a pre-employment drug screening is the EMIT (enzyme multiplied immunoassay technique). The popularity of the EMIT test is very high, although it has a 4-34% “false positive” rate.
