What is a detox diet?


 

The detox diets are actually the basis of every detox program because they prepare the body organs for the elimination process that will follow afterwards. The diet is quite an important element in the detox because they provide the human body with all the vitamins and nourishment it needs in order to keep the eliminating organs in good shape. During the detox process some toxins do not leave the body properly because of stress and dehydration. Thus, they usually remain in our digestive, lymph and gastrointestinal systems and also in the skin and hair causing a lot of problems, such as tiredness, headaches, nausea and even skin problems like acne. The idea that stands at the basis of every detox diet is to give up foods that contain large amounts of toxins. It is true that diets usually vary, but it is known that they all involve some kind of fast, meaning that you have to completely give up food for a few days and then gradually start introducing certain foods in your diet. These foods are usually organic foods containing almost no toxins at all. Some detox diets encourage people to undergo colon irrigation in order to cleanse the intestinal track or even to clean their bodies with herbal supplements.

How to keep a detox diet

There are a lot of detox diets and they all typically involve a few days on a completely liquid diet and then continuing with a healthy diet made of organic ingredients, such as brown rice, fruit, steamed vegetables etc. After eating these healthy organic foods for about a week, you are now allowed to introduce in your diet other foods. However you are not allowed to eat red meat, wheat, eggs and any kind of junk food. A very important thing that people on detox diets are recommended to do is to chew their food thoroughly and to drink as little as possible while eating. It is also quite essential that you relax before every meal so that your organs will work at their best. These detox diets are a little different from the usual diets and they are supposed to have wonderful results, such as curing diseases, giving the body more energy, making one more clear-headed. The proponents of detox diets believe that these diets are better than the usual diets especially because besides getting rid of the excess weight they also cleanse the body of toxins.

Why not follow a detox diet

It is also important to note that there is no scientific proof that by keeping a detox diet you eliminate more toxins than by keeping a normal diet. And also, there is no scientific proof that by eliminating all these toxins from the body you will be a healthier and more energetic person. There are some things you must take into consideration before keeping such a detox diet. First of all, the detox diets are not to be kept for a long period of time, they are intended only for short-term purposes. Another thing that you should hold in your mind is that these kinds of diets are not recommended in order to help people to lose weight, but for them to cleanse their system from all the unwanted substances. On top of all these you should be aware of the fact that children and teenagers are not recommended to keep such sever fasting diets, which could seriously damage their growing process. Also, teenagers who are involved in sport activities should not by any chance keep a detox diet, as it does not provide enough nutrients for them. Also people suffering from diabetes, low blood sugar and eating disorders should not keep detox diets. Such detox diets can also become addictive as many people turned out to enjoy purging just as much as others like alcohol or nicotine.

There are many detox programs that encourage people to cleanse their body from chemical substances and toxins through detox diets. The main purpose of a detox program is to detoxify the body's organs like the bowels, the kidneys, the liver, the lungs and other eliminating areas like the skin. The best way to have a completely clean body is to combine all this programs, but you should also take into consideration other factors such as hydration, nutrition, exercise and even clean environment. Diets are quite important in all this eliminating process because they help get rid of toxins in several ways. One of the bet ways of eliminating toxins is through bowel movement. The fibres that are found in the vegetables facilitate the body to have an excellent bowel movement. All detox diets are important because they provide the body with all the nutrients and vitamins it needs in order to keep its eliminating organs healthy.
